Rooted in Tamil Nadu's wood-carving heritage
Unique Wood Carvings is a manufacturer and supplier of premium handcrafted wooden sculptures, based in Kallakurichi, Tamil Nadu — working in the traditional style of South Indian temple wood carving.
A craft carried forward by hand
Tamil Nadu's wood-carving belt has, for generations, turned blocks of teak, mahogany and rain wood into temple pillars, processional icons and household decor. Unique Wood Carvings works within that tradition from our workshop in Kallakurichi, where skilled artisans shape each piece using the same tools and techniques their teachers used before them.
Our focus is on preserving that artistic legacy while delivering high-quality wooden sculptures to customers across India and worldwide — every creation reflecting a blend of heritage, skilled craftsmanship, intricate detailing and timeless artistry.
The values behind every piece
Heritage
Traditional South Indian motifs and proportions, carried forward without shortcuts.
Precision
Every leaf, feather and fold is cut freehand, checked and refined by eye.
Honest Materials
Real teak, mahogany, rain wood and maavilinga — named and sold as what they are.
Made to Order
Most pieces are carved against a confirmed order, keeping waste and stock to a minimum.
From timber to finished sculpture
Selecting the Wood
Rain wood, teak, mahogany or maavilinga is chosen to suit the size and detail of the piece.
Shaping & Turning
The block is roughed out by hand or turned on the lathe to establish the base form.
Hand Carving the Detail
Chisels and gouges cut the figures, jewellery and foliage freehand, layer by layer.
Finishing & Polishing
The piece is sanded and finished in varnish, wax, colour or gold, as the design calls for.
A sculpture carved by hand carries the maker's hand in it — that's what we try to protect in every piece that leaves our workshop.
